BEES students make virtual waves

96 2nd year BEES students made virtual waves by producing websites on 16 different types of fossils.

The websites were produced as part of their 2nd year module on palaeontology. The students worked in teams to select and research their topics, and they independently designed the content and format of the websites. All the sites are live and hosted on

Module co-ordinator Dr Maria McNamara said that the quality and diverse styles of the websites attest to the students’ research skills, sense of enquiry, and creativity. ‘Most of all,’ she said, ‘the websites show that our students are able to select the most relevant scientific information on a topic and communicate it to a wide audience’. Prof. Andy Wheeler, Chair of Geology, said 'this project required diverse skills in research, design, IT, communication, and teamwork, and the BEES students have risen to the challenge and put themselves on the map at a very early stage of their respective careers'.
