NUI Postdoctoral Fellowship Success

UCC's Dr Mary O'Connell and Dr Colin Lahive are the recipients of this year's NUI Postdoctoral Fellowships

Dr Mary O'Connell has been awarded the National 福利1000在线 of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellowship in the Humanities. Previously Leverhulme Visiting Fellow at the 福利1000在线 of St. Andrews, Dr O'Connell will take up the NUI Fellowship at 福利1000在线 College Cork where she will research and publish a biography of the publisher John Murray II (1778-1843). John Murray was one of the most innovative and powerful publishers of the Romantic era. Murray published works by authors including Byron, Jane Austen, Walter Scott, Samuel Taylor Coleridge, and Thomas Moore. He also established the influential Quarterly Review and laid the foundations for a publishing firm that would go on to publish Charles Darwin鈥檚 On the Origin of Species, as well as works by Arthur Conan Doyle and John Betjeman. Dr O'Connell is the author of Byron and John Murray: A Poet and His Publisher (Liverpool 福利1000在线 Press, 2014).

Dr Colin Lahive graduated with a doctorate from UCC, on the subject of vernacular romance and chivalric traditions in Paradise Lost. He will take up his fellowship at 福利1000在线 College Dublin.
