Travelled Tales. Leabhar Scéalach Siúlach II : A Tripartite Seminar to Celebrate the Return of the Book of Lismore to Cork
Thursday, 21 October, 5.00 - 6.00 pm
On-line via MS Teams :
It is exactly ten years since the Book of Lismore visited UCC from Chatsworth in England (some of you may remember that event, entitled 'Leabhar Scéalach Siúlach. The Book of Lismore at ¸£Àû1000ÔÚÏß College Cork', which was organised by Professors Máire Herbert and John Carey and the poster for which I have included here: Travelled Tales. Leabhar Scéalach Siúlach 2011). Now, thanks to the Duke of Devonshire Peregrine Cavendish, Professor Pádraig Ó Macháin (Head of the Dept of Modern Irish) and Special Collections in the Boole Library, the manuscript has returned to Cork, this time for good.
It will comprise three 15-minutes talks which will be delivered by Prof. John Carey (HOD Early and Medieval Irish), Dr Kevin Murray (HOS Irish Learning) and Prof. Pádraig Ó Macháin (HOD Modern Irish):
1. John Carey, ‘The Tongues of Men and Angels in the Book of Lismore
2. Kevin Murray, ‘The Book of Lismore and Acallam na Senórach ’
3. Pádraig Ó Macháin, ‘The Book of Lismore: Beyond Digitisation’
The seminar will take place on campus for a limited number of UCC staff and postgrads and simultaneously via MS Teams. The relevant MS Teams link is here: .
