Practice Educators Celebrated at Department ‘Lunch & Learn’ Event

The event brought together staff and educators to acknowledge the time, dedication and expertise shared with students throughout their learning journeys. A key feature of the afternoon was a presentation by Caroline Booth, Sinead Moynihan and Jean Harrington, who introduced a new simulation-based education initiative for Year 1 students. These simulation days are designed to enhance students’ skills and confidence in advance of their first clinical placements, marking an important development in teaching and learning within the programme.
A highlight of the event was the presentation of the Occupational Therapy Practice Educator of the Year awards. This year’s theme, Leadership in Inclusive Practice Education, reflected the importance of fostering inclusive learning environments. Awards were presented to Katie Mahon and Marie Claire O’Sullivan, following nominations from students, colleagues and tutors.

The gathering also provided an opportunity to honour the contributions of recently retired practice tutor Shelley Mack. She was warmly recognised by Year 4 students for her years of commitment, guidance and support, which have had a lasting impact on both students and colleagues.
The afternoon concluded on a celebratory note, reflecting the strong sense of community within the department and the vital role practice educators play in shaping the next generation of occupational therapists.
