European Union Mission Cities Conference 2026

29 May 2026

Brian O'Gallachoir participated in the High Level Policy Dialogue on Affordable and Sustainable Housing at the Cities Mission Conference 2026

Delighted to participate in the High Level Policy Dialogue on Affordable and Sustainable Housing at the Cities Mission Conference 2026.

My contribution focused on the work of the National Mirror Group for Mission Cities in Ireland established by the @ that I have the privilege of co-chairing along with . The purpose of the National Mirror Group is to bring Government Departments, State Agencies and Chambers of Commerce together with the Mission Cities to support their activities to accelerate climate mitigation, energy affordability and energy security.

I outlined some of the challenges that , and are facing in accelerating home renovations to increase energy affordability, family health and reduce emissions. These include accessing the necessary funding and human resources to scale up the retrofitting of local authority housing and supporting other families to retrofit their home.

The session was recorded and is available here .

I also touched on four recent successes, namely the recent allocation of €2 million from DCEE to the Mission Cities, increases of up to 51% in the allocation of funding for local authority retrofitting, the recent funding increases to more fully enable approved housing bodies to retrofit social housing and our work in regulatory sandboxes to trial innovative emissions reduction acceleration initiatives.

Wonderful to join the significant Irish contingent at this annual event and to learn from the other cities and National Mirror Groups across the EU.

Congratulations to , and for an excellent event in the lovely city of Torino.
