History of Motley
Motley is a culture-focused magazine produced by UCC students and made for readers across Cork and beyond.
Founded in 2006 by the UCC Journalism and Media Society, Motley later became one of UCC鈥檚 official student publications and is published regularly during term time. Distributed free across campus and across the city, it is also available online and has built a strong reputation for writing on music, film, art, fashion, student life and wider culture.
Motley won the SMEDIA Best Magazine award four years in a row, from 2014 to 2017.
Today, Motley is a space for student-led criticism, creativity and conversation. It is a magazine for new voices, strong opinions, interviews, reviews, visual work, essays and ideas that might not fit neatly elsewhere. Rooted in UCC but looking outward, Motley reflects the city around it: restless, creative, opinionated and always changing.
Motley's Mission
Motley is Cork鈥檚 culture magazine, a space for art, music, and creativity in all its forms. A motley of ideas led by UCC students, it is made for Cork and beyond - celebrating voices, stories, and imagination.
