All research students must register online each year until the submission of their thesis.
All research students must use their umail account for all student and research activities.
Online Registration
- Go to
- Enter your student number and password and click 鈥楲ogin鈥. If you have forgotten your password, you can reset your password here.
- Click on 鈥榦nline registration鈥 and follow instructions as directed, including payment of fees if you are self-funded.

Having trouble registering?
If you cannot register online, it might be due to one of the following reasons:

If you have completed the maximum period of study allowed for your programme (6 years for Doctoral students and 4 years for Master by Research), you must apply and be approved for an extension before being allowed to register for the next academic year. Student ID Card
- Your current Student ID Card will deactivate when your registration period is expired, so you will no longer have access to university facilities.
- Check the expiry date on your physical card: if your card is still in date, it will reactivate automatically once you register online.
- If your card is out of date, you will first need to register online. And then follow these instuctions to get a new physical card.
Fees
Self-funded Students
If you have completed your approve period of study and have not yet submitted your thesis, you must register for the next academic year. This is referred to as a continuation year. If you are not in receipt of funding for the next academic year, the total fee payable is 鈧1700 plus 鈧70 capitation fee. This payment is broken down as follows:

Funded by Research Grant/Department
If your research programme is funded, ensure that the F1 Funding Form or proof of payment of alternative funding has been completed and sent by your School/Department to the Fees Office: feesfunding@ucc.ie, or you can upload your F1 form by logging a query.
Funded by SUSI
New Awardee: Please provide a copy of your SUSI award to the Fees Office:
As you are a registered student, please upload your fee query to the . This link can be found on the UCC Fees Office website. This will open a case for you, where you can upload your award letter.
Renewals: Please ensure you have renewed your grant with SUSI and that you provide a copy of your SUSI renewal confirmation to the Fees Office. Without proof of your award or renewal, you are liable for 50% of your total fee at registration.
Funded by your Company/Employer
You will need to submit a letter on company headed paper confirming the details of the organisation to be invoiced. The letter should include the name, address, email address, and phone number of the relevant contact person.Please see further instructions under 鈥淭hird Party Payments鈥 here:
Capitation Fee
Please note that the Capitation Fee of 鈧70 is generally not covered by your funding and must be paid directly by the student.
Please also be aware that this fee is charged per registration. If the fee was paid in a previous academic year, it becomes payable again upon registration for a subsequent academic year. See payment instruction here:

Module Registration
PhD students are required to take a minimum of 15 credits. Please read the information about Postgraduate Training Modules carefully to register for modules as appropriate to your programme of study.
