Entry Requirements & Eligibility

Social Care Apprenticeship

 

Minimum education qualifications  

Applicants must have six recognised subjects in the Irish Leaving Certificate and must obtain a minimum Grade H5 in two subjects and minimum Grade O6/H7 in the remaining four subjects. This must include Irish (unless exempt) and English. 

 

Plus 

A minimum of 12 months experience working in a Social Care or Social Care related setting. 

Or 

Hold a level 5/6 QQI FETAC qualification from those listed below with Distinctions* (i.e. 80% or greater) in 4 modules. 

Plus 

A minimum of 12 months experience working in a Social Care or Social Care related setting.

With Distinctions* (i.e. 80% or greater) in 4 modules- 

*(5N1356/6N1946/W20008 Work Experience, 5N1433/6N1947 Work Practice, and 5C21523/6C21517 Professional Practice Placement in Early Learning and Care cannot be used as one of the required distinctions but will be allowed for scoring purposes). 

 

Candidates for whom English is not their first language will be required to demonstrate a certain level of competence that level can be found:

Non-standard entry/equivalences including Recognition for Prior Learning  

RPL (Recognition of Prior Learning) 

Consideration under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) may also be given to applicants who have at least three years’ professional experience in a social care or social care-related field.
